Meet my assistant, Gretchen. 

Alright, she's not my assistant, she's a lamp.  Not just any lamp, a magic lamp with secret powers.  Not really, she's just a lamp.  Why she has a name, we'll never understand.  For some reason I feel the need to name things.  My car, my briefcase.  Hey, even my little red vacuum cleaner - Albert.  Anyone in my house that is looking for the little red vacuum asks, "Does anyone know where Albert is?"  My poor mother with chemo-brain is still looking for another grandchild.

At any rate, about a year ago I moved my office into the house. I had one of those snappy "daylight simulated" lamps from Sharper Image, but it just didn't quiet cut it with my eclectic, antique filled home.  Right about the time I moved my office home, I went on a hiking trip in Sedona, AZ with my cousin, and partner in crime, Dee. 

On one of our outings that didn't involve hiking I stopped by a store that had funky, bizarre, artistic home accessories.

Well I saw this lamp across the room and we were in love, L-O-V-E, love.  I bought it on the spot and then came the bad news.  I couldn't take it, it has to be made to order by the artist and then shipped directly to me.  I paid for her and was told it would be 10-12 weeks before my lamp would be "born".

I don't think I was home a few days and the doorbell rang.  It was the UPS man and he brought me a package from BOCA RATON.  My lamp was born in Boca Raton, Florida and shipped to Bonita Springs, Florida.  I traveled halfway across the country to buy a lamp that was created 125 miles from my house! 

It was one of the best investments I ever made for my office.  It wasn't an inexpensive purchase, but I spend so much time at this desk it's nice to have something pretty to look at. It's a beautiful, heirloom piece that I'll never grow tired of and my kids will eventually get when I'm looking at the brown side of the grass.
