Estero Communitiy Dog Park & Off Leash Area

Estero Dog ParkEstero Community Park and Recreation Center is the largest within the Lee County Parks and Recreation system.  The community center is located in Estero Florida on Corkscrew Road, midway between US 41 and Three Oaks Parkway.

The Estero Community Park encompasses 55 acres and houses2 bocce courts, 12 horseshoe pits, 3 sand volleyball courts, shelters of varying sizes, a children's play area, 4 lakes, a 5K cross country course, a tortoise preserve, an outdoor amphitheater along with a 40,000 sq/ft. recreation center and an off leash dog park.

Those of you who looking for a place to take man's best friend now have a brand new, safe and FREE facility to take the entire family (including Fido) for an afternoon of fun.  The dog area is located near the playground area on the east side of the complex.  There is ample parking, large trees for shade and a multi-gated entry and exit system to keep your four-legged loved one from sneaking through the gate and escaping.

Dogs are everywhere!  It's great just to be a spectator.

The date these photos were taken several cooperative dogs and their owns hammed for the photos.

Thank  you!  Please leave a comment if you've visited the site or you're the volunteer models at the park.

Estero Dog & His Loving Owners

Estero Dog Park Entrance

Estero Party Dog

There are tons of trees for shade and acres of land for your dog to run free at the Estero Community Dog Park.

A triple gated system provides security so your dog doesn't accidentally escape the Dog Park.

This little fella is en-route, unleashed, at lightening speed to get the ball his owners (under the tree) have thrown.

In addition to the off leash parks of Bonita Springs, there are more parks that dog owners can go as long as they keep their pooches on leashes:

  • Ten Mile Linear Park, a slender green space with a path, allows dogs on leashes. That means you can skate, run, walk or bicycle with your canine companion. Access the park at Daniels and Metro parkways. Or catch the greenway where it crosses Six Mile Cypress Parkway. (239)461-7400.
  • When Lee County Parks & Recreation takes over management of the Sanibel Causeway islands in the future, that popular area will be deemed a park where dogs are allowed on leashes.
  • Coconut Point Mall, located in Estero, is an open-air shopping center with water stations and oops areas for the special paws and claws shopper. Many of the stores and restaurants are pet friendly, however each shop has an individual pet policy. (239)992-9966 www.CoconutPointRetail.com

Most importantly:  Read and obey the rules of the Estero Community Dog Park!

Home is where you hang your ... tetanus shot

Alright. I just wanted to see what was available in Bonita Springs, Florida - single family home - under $200,000.  Mostly 2 bed/1 bath older homes in an originally established part of town.  Then, there was this little fixer up, beauty - 5 bedrooms/4 bath - with a pool! - priced at $149,900!

Check out the remarks and description:

HUGE house on HUGE lot w/ a pool. Basically this is a shell of a home as it needs a lot of work/rehab however it has extreme potential. Located at the end of the street. Keeping your expectations low you will not be disappointed with what you see and smell here. Seller did their best to empty debris from home and it is as presentable as it could be made.

Check out these genuine, unretouched photos of this little castle.  Leah, will your rehab loan work on this?

Bonita Springs Florida Loves Big Business

    Chicos

Recenty, I was driving down Metro Parkway in Fort Myers and passed the Chico's headquarters.  They have the funnest monument sign.  You can't help but look at it and smile.

Southwest Florida is home to several business that are publicly traded on a major exchange.  Some businesses, such as Source Interlink, have actually relocated and transferred their workforce to Bonita Springs, Florida.  Source Interlink is just a few miles away from WCI Communities headquarters.  WCI - Watermark Communities Incorporated has played a major part in the development of Bonita Springs, Estero and other fine communties throughout Florida.  They are now expanding to other states.

Beasley Broadcasting is also stationed in Southwest Florida.

If you're going to work, why not work in Paradise, right?

Ok, Ok so everything has to be original content if you submit jokes for points, right?  What if you submit pictures?

Today, on my way to lunch at the Silverspoon at the Promenade in Bonita Springs, Florida and I almost got creamed by a septic tank truck.  When I got my brakes unlocked and caught up with him, this is what I saw:

    Holy Crap!

I don't know what's funnier, the fact that I almost died covered in Ka Ka or the business slogan of Amberjack Sanitation, Incorporated.  It's a dirty job, somebody's gotta do it, right?

    Estero Community Park - Cellpan

Come on!  What's the big deal?

Cellpan, a local heavy metal act, had hoped to hold an outdoor concert with three other bands on June 30 to celebrate its signing to a Florida-based independent record label.

These boys just want a place to practice and show their art!  Apparently, a few folks have their knickers in a twist about Cellpan using the Estero Community Park to play their music. Ok, so that mask is a little scary...hey, Elvis was scaring little old ladies when he was shaking his hips, right?

Hopefully the proper permits and requirements will be acquired within the time limits.  Full Story

    Active Rain Celebration in Florida

Celebration FloridaIt was really great to see a few of the Active Rain members in Orlando.  Putting a real face with the name is always so interesting.  Apparently, I don't look anything like my photo because it took time for people to figure out who I was.  Since I showed up dressed normally, I think I have lost all street credibility with Nick da Appraiser.  I didn't take any pictures because I figured AR would be inundated with dozens of blogs full of photos.   There were more flashes going off in that room than in front of the jail Paris Hilton is "touring".

Sidenote:  Although I'm not convinced he isn't a paid actor, Rick is real.  I saw him with my own eyes.

When the event was over I had an opportunity to spend time with little Ms. Sunshine, Colleen Kulikowski.  Colleen is just a great person.  Exhausted as she was from flying in only hours earlier, Colleen gave me a custom tour of Celebration, Florida which included Elderberry Drive and the great little post office.  It was an awesome opportunity to tour the town with an expert guide!  Since Colleen had blogged about some of the interesting points of Celebration, it was like I had already been there before.  I am shocked at how much she has learned about the area in such a short time.

It's true, Celebration, Florida is just like Mayberry.  I don't know if I've ever been to a story book village that was so perfect before.  When you turn the corner on any street you'd almost expect to see Sheriff Taylor and Opie walking with fishing poles. The following day I had an opportunity to take my family to Celebration.  They said it reminded them of Smallville.

We grabbed a quick breakfast in Celebration before heading home to Bonita Springs Florida.  The Market Street vendors where set up in Downtown Celebration, so we spent a little time touring the area.  We met Inna Schoeler, a "fiber artist".  She was selling hand made clothing which are works of art.  She creates them all herself.  Each item is an exquisite, one of a kind, work of art.   I'm excited to have picked up a few pieces.  Take a look at Inna's website:  http://www.foxxychique.com/

The next time you're in the Orlando area I highly recommend spending some time in Celebration, Florida.  It is the crown jewel of central Florida.

    Mound Key Archaeological Site

Mound KeyLocated in the middle of Estero Bay is Mound Key  an archaeological site managed by Koreshan State Historic Site - State Park.

Calusa Indians dominated southern Florida for centuries and resisted the Spanish explorers. Mound Key Archaeological Site is believed to be the ceremonial center of Calusa society.

The Indian shell mounds at the site rise more than 30 feet high and are estimated to date back nearly 2000 years. The site is only accessible by boat from the southern end of Estero Island.  Review the list of boat ramps in the Bonita Springs and Estero areas.  The closest boat ramp and causeway area is at Carl Johnson State Park at Lover's Key.  Kyaks and canoes are available for rent.

Also: Check out this awesome Blueway map for boaters, kyakers and canoers.

Be sure to take sunscreen and plenty of mosquito repellant.  Open flames are not permitted due to drought conditions.
