Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Southwest Florida in Bonita Springs, FLorida.
Great News! I just found out about the inaugural Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Southwest Florida. This is exciting for a few reasons.
•· The Susan G. Komen foundation is a great organization and well deserving of the support SW Florida is giving.
•· The Coconut Mall has recently opened and this is a great way to see the fine contribution the facility has made to the Bonita Springs and Estero, Florida areas.
•· It's a race for the CURE! WE've all been touched by the effects that breast cancer has had on someone we know or love. What better way to help support the cause?
Yes, for those of you who may be wondering... The "Bonita Springs - Keller Williams Running and Limping Club" will be attending in full force. There are a variety of walks and runs the day of the race. We will be competing in the timed 5K run. There is also a walk and a non timed 5K. There's even a "sleep in" for participants that can't make it due to work, being out of town, wanting to sleep in or other commitments.
From the http://www.komenswfl.org/ website: Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women between the ages of 40-59. Perhaps you know someone...a wife, mother, daughter, sister or friend who has endured this disease. Every thirteen minutes a woman will die of breast cancer. Breast cancer affects the women and men who we know and love, along with every member of their family.
Together, we can achieve our promise to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. This Race will be a celebration of life, as well as a time to remember those whom have lost their battle but who remain within our hearts. Your support of the Race will help us reach the day when, we will be celebrating a cure!!
Together we can win this Race!

Dan: That was over the Cape Coral Midpoint Bridge, too. Up a huge hill twice! With a side stitch! (the limping comes afterwords)
Thanx for stopping by!
Oh Chris-
Stop crying, it's only a quick run.
Yeah, right I know exactly what you're going to say!
So what are you predicting for your time this year?
(oh, I knew this was coming.......)
Just fast enough to beat you, have a drink, and go back to the finish line to see you show up!
How's that Camelback when you run? I used to use it when I was cycling - but it seems like it would be a pain to run with.
UPDATE
Dear Inaugural Race Participant;
The first annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®Southwest Florida is now history. It was such a thrill to see 3500 participants at Coconut Point gathered for one purpose -- to help end breast cancer! Thank you for joining our Race Committee, the Affiliate Board of Directors, our generous corporate sponsors, and our dedicated army of volunteers to make this first Race a huge success.
Not only did we collectively raise over $435,000, we also made major strides in raising awareness in Lee and Collier counties. In so doing, we were able to honor friends and loved ones who are currently battling this disease and remember those who have lost their battle to breast cancer.
Our first Race is now behind us, but our work is not finished. We will continue to work in our communities to further educate the public that early detection saves lives, to ensure quality care for all and to energize science to find the cures until breast cancer is stomped out forever.
We are beginning to plan for the next race so if you would like to volunteer and be a part of the Race Committee please contact our volunteer chair, at volunteer@komenswfl.org. Watch our Affiliate website (http://www.komenswfl.org/) for details of the second annual Komen Race for the Cure® scheduled for March, 2008.
Thank you,
2007 Race Committee and Board of Directors
